“I have had a lump for years.”
She said it plainly, the way people here do. She had known about it for years. She just did not have insurance, and a mammogram in Amarillo costs more than most families in this part of Texas have sitting in the bank.
That is the choice too many women in the Panhandle are making. Drive an hour, take a day off work you cannot afford, and hand over money you do not have. Or wait, and wonder.
Panhandle Breast Health exists so nobody has to make that choice. We cover the mammogram. We cover the gas to get there. We bring the screening to hometown hospitals in Pampa and Dumas so the drive is shorter. And we do it without asking anyone to prove how poor they are.

OUR PROGRAMS
Panhandle Breast Health works to decrease the number of breast cancer deaths by increasing mammogram rates through education, access and advocacy. In addition to Health and Resource Fairs, PBH is available for presentations at civic organizations, church groups, schools, employee groups and more.

TRAVEL ASSISTANCE
We're all about removing barriers to screenings including the cost of travel. If you travel more than 100 miles roundtrip to access breast cancer screenings. PBH will mail you a $15 gift card or two if you travel more than 200 miles roundtrip.
HEALTH AND RESOURCE FAIRS
Panhandle Breast Health participates in health and resource fairs throughout the Texas Panhandle in an effort to educate people, especially those who are at higher risk of cancer, on the vital importance of breast cancer screenings. And for those who are uninsured, provide no-cost breast cancer screenings. Invite us to your community event, employee wellness fair, or civic organization meeting.

HOMETOWN SCREENINGS
PBH continues to expand services into rural communities, offering women vital preventative screenings. We partner with Pampa Regional Medical Center in Pampa and Moore County Hospital District in Dumas. Our partner, BSA Harrington Breast Center, also operates a mobile mammography unit. Together, we're making hometown screenings available to more women in the Texas Panhandle.
